What’s In The Box – June 12, 2009

June 12, 2009

Hello everyone!

Hope everyone’s enjoying the sun, and maybe planning a beach trip or two!! We know its not officially summer yet, but its sure starting to feel like it….
In your box this week you will find:
-New Potatoes
-Purple Top Turnips
-Basil
-Green Tomatoes
-Flowers
-Chard
-Kohlrabi – a globular member of the cabbage family that tastes like a tender broccoli stem – the chinese name for it means “big head vegetable”
-Onion
-Green Onion
-Garlic
-Dill
Since we realize that the Farm to Fork thing is a little pricey (not to mention sold out), we wanted to include the recipe for what we’re making so you can have your own tasting at home. And feel free to send suggestions – we’re total amateurs at this cooking thing, so all suggestions are welcome.
Beet salad with Fried Egg Garnish
Salad
1    C. grated beets
1    C. grated carrots
1/2 C. grated cabbage (you could use kohlrabi instead)
Dressing
1/4 C. olive oil
1 clove crushed garlic
1/4 C. apple cider or white wine vinegar
1 T. grainy mustard
1 T. chopped fresh dill
Whisked together dressing ingredients, adding salt & pepper to taste. Toss salad with dressing.  Then fry desired number of eggs and cut into strips.
Serve beet salad over greens with fried egg strips on top. If you like hot stuff Sriracha sauce is REALLY good on this.
Enjoy; wish us luck on Sunday and we’ll see you next week!
